Penang Overrated

It was 8 o'clock and I was starved at Batu Ferringhi. I didn't know where to eat. Confused about the choices, I asked around. There, in front of me stood a middle aged Indian man. Thinking I was an Arab tourist looking for a money changer, he waved his hands at me saying, "come come change money". Instead of ignoring him, I decide to ask his recommendation. At first, he was startled when I spoke in Malay. I get that a lot, anyway so here's our conversation.

MAIM: Come come, money changer. You change your money. I give good rate.
Me: Pakcik, boleh recommend tak any stall or restaurant.
MAIM: Eh, you orang Malaysia ke?
Me: [Raises eyebrows quizzically before replying yes] Of course lah! So boleh recommend tak tempat makan yang sedap-sedap?
MAIM: Ohhhh you look like orang Arab. Emm.. You from where ah?
Me: KL
MAIM: Ohhh! You can eat anywhere lah! Penang food is excellent you know!.. Semua tempat pun bagus! Whenever I go to KL, problem for me. No good place to eat! Try walking to that food court there. Nice food there! Everywhere aso nice food!
Me: Eh, please lah uncle. I don't know where you've been in KL, because seriously, I've never had any problems.
MAIM: NOOO GOOOOD FOOOD IN KL

[I walk away, annoyed].

So I went to eat at the food court that he recommended and found that food in Penang sucked. So what's all this talk about Penang food being good? I just don't get the Penang food hype.

Me;the abouts and goings

I’m a fantastic procrastinator. I love weird things, my flipflops, tomyam, kamérah & apple khan, twinkle keys [seven hundred pounds of sweetness, I might add!], my baby cousins and all else thats colourful.
